Frequently asked questions
Absolutely! You can work from anywhere—your home office, a coffee shop, on the road, or even the beach. As long as you have a reliable internet connection and a smart device, you’re fully equipped to run your travel business wherever life takes you.
You may see other agencies advertising “100%" commissions, but it’s important to ask—100% of what?
For example, an agency might receive a 10% commission from a supplier like Sunwing, but they have a fixed 5% commission rate they pay to their agents and this is the rate the agents see when booking trips. Technically, they can say they’re paying 100% of the rate that agents see, but they’re also keeping the other 5% that they're not disclosing to agents. So in reality, the agent is only earning 50% of the total commission that was paid to the agency.
To put this in other terms, on a $200 commission, those agencies would only pay $100 to the agent whereas GOwithHIPPO would pay $140.
At GOwithHIPPO, we believe in complete transparency. Our 70/30 split is applied to the full 100% commission we receive from suppliers—no hidden percentages, no undisclosed amounts. Integrity matters, and our agents always know exactly what they’re earning.
There’s no minimum contract length with GOwithHIPPO. While agents sign a yearly agreement, you have the freedom to exit at any time with written notice.
As an independent contractor, the schedule is entirely yours. You set your goals, decide how much time to invest, and shape your business around the lifestyle you want.
It depends a bit on you! Once your application is approved, we send you a link to pay the start-up fee and begin the background check, which requires your input. Once everything is approved, most agents can be onboarded within a day or so.
Currently, only Ontario has a mandatory requirement for Travel Professionals selling within their province.
Their regulatory board, TICO, requires you to complete a course and obtain certification before selling travel.
This course is separate from your HIPPO fees, and there is an exam fee payable directly to TICO.
For more details, visit: www.tico.ca/getstarted
Outside Ontario: There are currently no mandatory courses or additional fees to get started.
When organic leads do come into the agency, we distribute them fairly and evenly (based on location and training completion).
Keep in mind, GOwithHIPPO is designed so your business grows through your connections, your network, and the effort you put in. Your success will primarily come from building relationships and actively engaging with your own clients and contacts.
To SELL travel insurance directly to clients, you MUST be licensed in your province of residence, according to their provincial regulations.
At GOwithHIPPO, it’s mandatory to offer travel insurance on every trip—but it’s not required to be licensed to make that offer. We give you the choice of 2 paths, so that you can decide how involved in insurance you want to be while still providing clients with the protection they need.
Option #1: Referral: You can refer clients to our insurance provider and earn a cash referral credit for every policy that is booked as a result of your referral.
Option #2: Licensing: Becoming licensed is optional but to earn the highest commissions on insurance this is the path that you would need to take. Each province has its own regulations and licensing requirements, and GOwithHIPPO can sponsor you with our provider, Manulife. Any costs associated with becoming licensed are additional and are the responsibility of each individual HIPPO.
As an independent contractor with GOwithHIPPO, you operate under a yearly contract agreement. While we hope every HIPPO stays with the herd, you have the freedom to exit at any time by simply providing written notice. Our goal is to make this process straightforward, respectful, and hassle-free.
We understand why you might ask, but all trips are booked under GOwithHIPPO’s credentials. That means the agency, not the individual agent, is ultimately responsible to the suppliers. When a HIPPO leaves, the trips remain with GOwithHIPPO to ensure continuity and compliance with suppliers. Your role as the agent was the contact point, but the booking itself stays with the agency.
We know you’ve put in the work on trips, and we’d love to pay you immediately—but unfortunately, pending commissions cannot be paid out after leaving. Here’s why:
- Suppliers usually pay commissions only after the trip is completed, so we don’t have the funds to pay in advance.
- Client support is still required. Another HIPPO may need to manage the trip after you leave, and they must be compensated for their work.
We understand this can be frustrating, but these measures ensure that clients are fully supported and that the process remains fair for everyone involved.
